I get messages daily of business owners managing their own ads asking for advice getting angry because "It didn't work, ughh!" or "Facebook ripped me off!" 😳
Facebook didn't rip you off. They did everything they were supposed to do. They put you in front of an audience, the rest is all up to you.
(Your first mistake was likely that you didn’t hire a pro to fix your plumbing, and laid that pipe yourself, but you get the idea. 😉)
Want to turn your ad performance around? Don’t get angry at Facebook. Learn how to play their game.
TARGETING. CREATIVE. TESTING. MORE CREATIVE.
✅ TARGETING. 🎯 Target the right audience using common sense and trying to see through the eyes of your desired audience. What do they like? What do they buy or read about?
✅ CREATIVE. 🎨 Write creative copy for your Ad or have the humility to hire someone who CAN - or at least take a course in copywriting, ELP psychology, or advertising.
✅ TESTING. 🤓 Don’t be afraid to TEST and TEST and TEST. Spend a bit more in the testing phase to test out 4-5 different ad creatives. Instead of spending $25 per day in the first week, do 5 ads at $5 per day. Choose the “winners” and test again.
✅ MORE CREATIVE. 🎨 Make the place where they land upon clicking on your ad like the heaven they've been searching for their whole life. You can do everything right in the steps above and make ZERO sales because you didn't create enough VALUE in their eyes. A landing page should be designed professionally with high quality logo/etc. Create a sense of urgency. Provide social proof, testimonials. If you don't have it, don't even waste sending traffic.
✅ ... and at last - know this: Not every business idea or product is as great as you think it is! Your business model can be FLAWED. Sometimes the issue isn't that you can't advertise your service properly, but the fact that you're trying to sell potatoes to a potato farmer who doesn't want your overpriced ugly potatoes! (Yeah I realize that metaphor doesn’t exactly work here, but I was on a roll, so I’m gonna keep it).
We tend to turn off the common sense and turn on the "ads" as if something is going to change. It isn't easy. It isn't simple. But when you do it right, it can change the course of your business, because when they’re REALLY dialed in, there isn’t a single advertising dollar you can spend that can do as much for you as Facebook ads can.
And now, here’s a random picture of chocolate syrup I found on my desktop.
